If it offers a lifetime sub, I'll definitely pick it up. Won't be able to play for a long time, but I really do love the lifetime sub option of LOTRO.

G, like with LOTRO, I think the lifetime is only available for pre-orders. Time will tell if (like LOTRO) they offer lifetime subscriptions on their anniversaries.

Well, WalMart Canada apparently isn't participating the in the pre-order and EBGames (ie Game Stop) couldn't guarantee I'd actually get the codes ... nor could they guarantee I'd actually get the game in the next couple of weeks ....

Doing the digital download from Atari and hoping I can get it done and enter the code before midnight!

I had a few hours today to fool around with STO and I'm liking it. Plenty of story if you want to take the time to read it. LOT'S of character advances (your character plus Bridge Crews) which is something I really like in a game, though hopefully those advancements get more refined as you level.

I was very surprised that I could play in large fleet battles with dozens (maybe over a hundred) of PC and NPC ships around me and my comp didn't crap out. I should say that though my comp was cutting edge 4 years ago, it's always suffered from massive heat issues and can freeze up if the video gets taxed too much. Also my internet connection is still that mutant child of a radio dish thing, but it seemed to keep up well enough with only a couple of moments of lag that didn't affect gameplay much.

Over the past couple of years, I played EVE Online. STO is simpler but I think that's a good thing (see pic below). It's not nearly as simplified as WOW, but you also don't need to spend 50 hours reading online strategy guides to be competent. Still, there's a few things I'm going to need to figure out (how to send tells, how to send group invites, how to fix my camera angle so it follows behind <please, let there be a way to do that>, and how to get trade in my male Engineer for a female one ... and then how to get my female posse into mini-skirts!)

Anyways, I'm liking it. The mix of ground/space stuff is nice too. And the lifetime subscription combined with simpler-then-EVE-gameplay means I can play a bit here and there and not have to relearn everything every time I take a few weeks break. Name is Geriatrix, ship name is Pannacea.

how to send tells

/tell toon@handle, blahblahblahblah

how to send group invites

I've only invited fleet members or friends list folks, so I use those lists and invite off there.

how to fix my camera angle so it follows behind <please, let there be a way to do that>

I would like to know if this is possible myself, but SO FAR its looking like yer camera always follows yer current target. that works great for ground combat, not so much for ship. I'll keep playing with it.

and how to get trade in my male Engineer for a female one

hit U to bring up yer main character window, select the officer, and then there should be a "discharge" button at the bottom of the window. After that, there is a bridge officer "vendor" in the Personnel section of Spacedock you can go to to trade in starfleet merits for another officer. And, if that officer has skills that suck, you can just go 3 steps to the right and trade in skills by spending starfleet merits

and then how to get my female posse into mini-skirts!

I think you needed to have a preorder that included the TOS series uniforms as a bonus or yer screwed there. But to change uniforms, theres a Cardassian tailor in the Requisitions section of Spacedock, and you can change yer stuff there. I think I played with the boobie slider for like, 5 full minutes. lol

Hope that helps man!

if any UG folks would like to join the 501st Fleet, send any of the MWMers a tell. Inc references for toons:

Mclain@Brutus221 (Teluas - Fleet Captain [aka leader])

... and none of the others have their handle names posted to the MWM boards... just the toon names. I'll edit this post after I smack em around a bit.

Cool, thanks for all those answers!

Geriatrix@GiddyGeriatrix

My apologies in advance if you send me a tell and I don't answer. Either I'm so engrossed in the game that I don't notice tells or (equally likely) I'm trying to figure out how to reply :confuse:

(as for the 5 min boob slider ... stamina, man, stamina ... 7.5 minutes for me!)

Jackson@Lt.Hansen (501st Chief of Security) <----- The Baldguy\Yopt

And you can reply by hitting backspace.

7.5 minutes Giddy? Holycrap I had the theme from weird science playing in the back on my mind for about 15 minutes after seeing that when I got into Beta.
D&D is not real life. D&D is HeMan. HeMan never asked whether Skeletor was beaten as a child HeMan didn't care if his villains were "Just following orders". No Skeletor lived in a cave and that was reason enough to get his ass kicked.

I made Lt Commander today! Likely won't have much time to play for the next while though. One of these times I'll catch up with those that are playing and get a fleet invite (if space isn't limited)

I'm hoping to get (more) into this game as time goes on. It's been pretty fun so far, in the limited time I've had for it.

I thought about picking this up but think I'm gonna pass for now. Sorta been holding out for the Bioware Star Wars MMO but doubt that'll see the light of day for awhile yet..
